In 2003, Demichelis transitioned to Bayern Munich from River Plate, where he gradually emerged as a pivotal defensive force. During his tenure at the club, he was mentored by esteemed coaches such as Hitzfeld, Magath, and Van Gaal. He secured the treble of domestic titles on four occasions, while in the 2009-2010 season, he narrowly missed capturing the coveted triple championship.

In 2019, his coaching journey at Bayern Munich commenced with his appointment as the head of the U19 squad, followed by his role as the manager of the second team. Returning to his roots in 2022, he took the helm of River Plate's first team, leading the team to secure the Argentinean league title in his maiden season. This term, Demichelis has been appointed as the head coach of RB Leipzig.
