The FIFPRO Team of the World, honoring the year's top male and female footballers as selected by the International Players' Association, originated in 2005 under the title FIFPRO World 11. This prestigious accolade, which honors the finest footballers as chosen by their peers, was initially introduced to celebrate the excellence in the sport. In 2009, a collaborative effort between FIFPRO and FIFA led to the renaming of the award to "FIFA FIFPRO World 11," commonly referred to as the FIFA Team of the Year, while maintaining the original voting system. Commencing from 2024, FIFPRO will manage the award autonomously, reverting to its original name, the FIFPRO World 11.
The FIFPRO Team of the Year, chosen through ballots cast by players worldwide, stands as the sole international accolade in football entirely determined by its athletes. The criteria for player eligibility are based on their performances from August 4, 2025, to July 19, 2026, with a minimum requirement of participation in 30 official matches.
The final lineup of 11 players will consist of one goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, three forwards, with the remaining spot allocated to the non-goalkeeper player who receives the most votes.
