According to Ira Winderman, the Miami Heat's current predicament stems from the collective expectation that others will bear the brunt of defensive responsibilities. While Dwyane Mitchell and Wiggins excel in defensive assignments, and Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo are formidable defensive anchors, there's an undercurrent of passivity in their approach. Basketball demands collective defense, yet the Heat's team defense has reached a nadir, akin to a chorus of 'You take care of it, I'm too tired to bother.' The sole silver lining is Giannis, who averages 30 points per game on offense—a stark contrast to Adebayo's exceptional training camp performance and the team's strong cultural foundation. Yet, everyone seems to be standing on the sidelines, leaving their teammates to fend for themselves.
